So, I just got back from the Virginia Transplant Games and did okay. I was in 9 events and won 9 medals. 5 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze. Breakdown:
5K: Gold
100m: Gold
50m: Gold
Softball Throw (yea, its a real event…I guess): Gold
100m swim (seriously, swimming blows): Gold
200m: Silver
Discus: Silver
Shotput (the 16lb mf’er): Silver
400m: Bronze
It worked out pretty well. I did well in the 5k and the softball throw. Two events I figured I could win. The rest was just a bonus. I used the running as a prep for my 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks, which is pretty awesome. I felt my speed was decent and apparently I can sprint so long as its less than 199 meters. The 5k though, it was weird, because it was like running cross country in high school. This course was clearly just randomly thrown together and it was horrible. Terrible footing, weird drop off, and it was wet/muddy. So, it wasnt great, but whatever, I didnt turn an ankle.
The worst thing ever though is swimming. Seriously. I never swam competitively as a kid or adult. I figured, I know HOW to swim, how hard can this be? Yea, between pacing, breathing, not drinking pool water (oops), and it being my 9th event of the day, it was freaking terrible. However, I am determined to learn how to legitimately swim, flip turn and all. But, I am canceling my plans for a triathlon this fall. Those plans have been put on hold. Namely bc of this swimming crap. It’s okay though, I am home from VA, I am happy with my performance this past weekend, I got my Cuse iPhone case in the mail, and my room is mostly clean.
Life is decent.
