2012?!? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

So, after I was all gung-ho about this little ditty for a whole 2 weeks, I fell off the face of the earth, again, for like 3 months. Oops. Well, quick catch up:

Ran that first half Oct 16 in Cbus. 2:04:13.

Then a friend asked if I wanted to run another half. I said, why not.

Second half on November 5 in Indy. 2:07:07.

Then I ran a turkey trot in Cbus. 4miler: 34:51

Since then, life has slowed down. Which is awesome.

Besides going to Indy, I went back to Cuse for homecoming, New Orleans for a pharmacy conference, and Kansas for new years. As well as seeing the fam in CLE for Christmas time.

I have also had a few incredible rotations lately, which has been amazing.

2012 really turned a new leaf for this kid. Life is good. Nothing crazy, but I am happy. Happier than I have been in a long time.

(its been) One Week (since you looked at me)

One week til my 1/2 marathon! weeeeeeeeeee!

I am pretty pumped. Had a solid 5 miler yesterday. Tapering is great. I am ready to do this, just so many days left. So much build up. Probably because it is my first half. Right? I dunno. But either way, it needs to be the 16th already.

So, the Columbus Marathon gives out an award called the Spirit Award. It is given to people who over come circumstances and run. I am one of the 10 winners this year! So, it is pretty exciting. I get to go to some “VIP” reception. Should be fun. I am hoping it comes with free registration to next years race. We will see, we will see.

The link has the little story on the 10 winners. Enjoy!

Inept Offenses We’re The Theme of Last Weekend

Cuse: 16 Points (Lost)
Browns: 13 points (Lost)
Buckeyes: 7 points (Lost)

Really guys? Really? Come on now. You’re better then that.

I’m More of a 2004 Michael Phelps then a 2008

So, I just got back from the Virginia Transplant Games and did okay. I was in 9 events and won 9 medals. 5 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze. Breakdown:

5K: Gold
100m: Gold
50m: Gold
Softball Throw (yea, its a real event…I guess): Gold
100m swim (seriously, swimming blows): Gold
200m: Silver
Discus: Silver
Shotput (the 16lb mf’er): Silver
400m: Bronze

It worked out pretty well. I did well in the 5k and the softball throw. Two events I figured I could win. The rest was just a bonus. I used the running as a prep for my 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks, which is pretty awesome. I felt my speed was decent and apparently I can sprint so long as its less than 199 meters. The 5k though, it was weird, because it was like running cross country in high school. This course was clearly just randomly thrown together and it was horrible. Terrible footing, weird drop off, and it was wet/muddy. So, it wasnt great, but whatever, I didnt turn an ankle.

The worst thing ever though is swimming. Seriously. I never swam competitively as a kid or adult. I figured, I know HOW to swim, how hard can this be? Yea, between pacing, breathing, not drinking pool water (oops), and it being my 9th event of the day, it was freaking terrible. However, I am determined to learn how to legitimately swim, flip turn and all. But, I am canceling my plans for a triathlon this fall. Those plans have been put on hold. Namely bc of this swimming crap. It’s okay though, I am home from VA, I am happy with my performance this past weekend, I got my Cuse iPhone case in the mail, and my room is mostly clean.

Life is decent.

In the last 7 years…

I haven’t done a run longer then probably 5 miles. Then a few weeks ago I did 6.2, then 8.5, then 6.5, then yesterday I did a 10.5 miler. Definitely the 1st time in double digits since senior year CC. I felt pretty good and it makes this 1/2 seem completely obtainable. Big athletic plans for the year 2012.

Year 26 will be my healthiest yet.

Too Much?

I have some races coming up in the next few weeks. Maybe its too many…

10/1/11 - Virginia Transplant Games 5K/100/200/400/Swimming/Basketball
10/16/11 - Columbus 1/2 Marathon (my first!)
10/22/11 - Tiger Tri (250m swim, 16mile bike, 3.2mile run)
11/24/11 - Aurora Turkey Trot (4miler)
12/11/11 - Dublin Snowflake 5k

So…thats 5 races in the next 2 1/2 months. I dont see this being too much of an issue…I hope. Maybe the bike/swim. But it was $22 to register and I wanna start doing Tri’s.

Feet don’t fail me now…

A New Beginning

So, I want to do something with this baby. Have a theme maybe? I think I like the sound of that. Some sort of common thread that runs through this.

On that note, I believe I am going to turn this into a transplant/running/fitness/awesomness blog. No real rhyme or reason to it, but I am finally into a routine in life, so, here goes nothing…
